Dear Families,

Winter is officially here!  With the colder temperatures, I am pleased to see that most of my students are dressed cozily and warmly with winter attire (E.g., toque, gloves/mitts, coat, snow pants, neck warmer, etc…).  I am encouraging families to please have your child put in their backpacks an extra pair of socks and mitts/gloves just in case because I have had a few students come in from fitness breaks feeling wet and damp from playing in the snow.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!

Bus Cancellations:
We have already had our first snow day this week, wowza!  I have had a few parents ask me this so I would like to clarify on here too.  Please know that if we experience bus cancellations on a particular field trip day, in class visitor, or a concert in our case this week that the event will also be cancelled.  Notice of rescheduling will be given through the agenda the next day and/or the school website.  If you haven't already done so, it is highly encouraged that you subscribe to our school website to receive up to date information as it comes in from Mrs. Metheral in the office.  Please visit and the instructions to subscribe are in the newsletter provided.  Thank you :)

Holiday Concert:
Thank you to all the staff, students, and families for attending and sharing your smiles during our heartfelt performances (day and evening show).  It was a true joy seeing Kindergarten to Grade 4 students perform with such enthusiasm, poise, and spirit!  A special thank you to Mr. Morin our music teacher for organizing and teaching my students “Silent Night” on the recorder and singing "It Feels Like Christmas."  My class is certainly surrounded with beautiful musicians and singers!!

Thank you to all the Nottawa families who have already donated items for our food drive thus far. Keep those donations coming into next week!  Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of others. This is a true example of Empathy, thinking about the feelings of others!  Thank you to the families of Carson, Zach, Nate, and Jackson for their generous donations this week!

Empathy Assembly:
Next Thursday, we will be celebrating this month's character trait - Empathy!  A reminder that our class will be performing two songs and a slideshow for this assembly.  You are welcome to attend and show your support J It will take place during Period 1: 9:15 - 9:50 a.m.  It is also a spirit day, so students are encouraged to dress up in their festive holiday gear emphasizing the colours red, green, and white and even rocking their Santa hats if they wish!

2017 Business Fair:

The grade 8’s have been working hard on their business plans and they will execute a Business Fair next week on Tues. Dec. 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Our class will be attending this event!  If you wish to send in money so your child can purchase some items, please do so and place money into a zip lock baggy with his or her name clearly labelled on it.

PJ Movie Day:
Next Friday, the last day before the Holiday Break, our Leadership Team has organized a PJ movie day for all students!!  Your child is encouraged to wear his or her comfy, cozy PJ's!  They may wish to also bring in their favourite stuffy (e.g., teddy bear), blankie, and pillow so they’re comfortable during the movie!  Our class will go to the gym during period 5/6 which is 1:40 to the end of the school day.  There will be hot chocolate, baked goods, and popcorn available for a minimum donation of $1 per item.  All donations will be going towards Nottawa’s production of Annie Jr.

Edible Christmas Tree Creations:
It was an exciting day in our classroom!  Students worked on a writing piece (procedure) on how to make an edible Christmas tree.  They used their language notebook to record their ideas and in the end, they got to evaluate and try their tree treats!  They looked YUMMY!  Thank you parents for your continued generosity in providing numerous delicious toppings for our class to share, use, and build their sweeeeet trees!  Check us out!

Help Support Mrs. Bridson Fight Cancer:

As the holidays approach, I know many families are thinking of gifts to give to the teacher.  There is a cause that is near and dear to my heart as well as the rest of the staff at Nottawa.  Some may know, and some may not, but Mr. Bridson's (grade 7 teacher) wife is undergoing treatment in Arizona to fight cancer.

In lieu of buying a gift for me, I would really appreciate if you could please donate some money at Elephant Thoughts or online at the link provided below.  All money raised will be put towards the Bridson family who are in dire need of funding to help them continue this treatment to keep Mrs Bridson fighting.  It is the season of giving, and what better way than to help a family in need :)  Thank you so much!!

If you have already purchased a gift for me, please know, I will graciously receive it and know how much it means to me.  Your acts of kindness are always cherished!!
